This interactive and engaging annual report outlines the many ways RhPAP worked alongside rural Albertans, health professionals and learners, as well as key partners and stakeholders to strengthen rural healthcare across the province over the past year. From mentorship programs and continuing professional development, to community attraction and retention initiatives and bursaries, the report highlights RhPAP’s efforts to keep healthcare close to home.
The numbers tell a powerful story: In 2024–25, RhPAP supported 62 attraction and retention committees across 171 communities, helping to integrate 126 healthcare professionals into 37 rural areas. More than 330 high school and 375 post-secondary students explored rural health careers through Let’s Go Rural! events, while 958 learners were housed in 154 leased accommodations across 52 communities. RhPAP also provided professional development support to over 630 rural health professionals, awarded 93 bursaries, and helped 19 physicians enhance their skills through specialized training programs.
The Athabasca/Boyle Attraction and Retention Committee shared: “RhPAP is a great resource for our regional attraction and retention committee—not just because of their financial support, but also the advice and experience they provide. This guidance helps us make the best decisions for our communities.”
“The 2024–25 Year in Review demonstrates RhPAP’s growing impact and the importance of partnerships in supporting rural health,” said Tracy Sopkow, RhPAP CEO. “Through collaboration, innovation, and on-the-ground engagement, we continue to build capacity and resilience in rural health systems.”
RhPAP invites all partners, community leaders, healthcare professionals, and rural champions to explore the report and celebrate the collective progress made in supporting healthier rural communities.
