Post-Secondary Experiences (previously known as Skills Weekends) provide rural communities with an opportunity to showcase what they have to offer to future health-care providers. These events are hosted by rural Alberta community attraction and retention committees who engage local health-care providers and the community at large in highlighting rural health-care career options and scopes of practice as well as the lifestyle opportunities available in rural Alberta.
The weekend provides post-secondary health-care students with the chance to have an introduction to specific health-care skills from local providers with an emphasis on showcasing how rural health-care works in a team environment. It also includes time for students to engage in local recreational and community activities, allowing participants to experience what the community offers in terms of lifestyle interests.
