Aided by RhPAP funding, the Office of Continuing Medical Education and Professional Development at the University of Calgary (The Office of CME&PD) works with rural physicians to provide high-quality CME that meets the needs of rural Alberta. In addition to strengthening existing health care services in rural communities, the Office of CME&PD offers continuous professional learning opportunities and encourages the creation and maintenance of professional networks which helps to reduce professional isolation and facilitate the recruitment of physicians to rural Alberta communities.
Continuing Medical Education helps to build healthy communities for rural Alberta physicians. It can be a challenge, however, to provide Alberta’s rural physicians with access to CME. The decision to attend a CME activity can place quite a strain on smaller rural practices both on the physician’s remaining colleagues and on the attending physician due to its significant financial cost. To help offset or negate these burdens, RhPAP provides Alberta’s rural physicians with access to Continuing Medical Education initiatives.
