Post-secondary students learn what it’s like to be a health professional in a rural Alberta community
Health professionals from the Fairview region will teach medical and nursing students from the University of Alberta basic medical skills at an upcoming skills weekend in Fairview, Alberta on August 23-25, 2019. The weekend includes an interactive skills day that offers students a hands-on opportunity to engage in common health-care activities. Students can also speak with the instructors about health-related careers in the community, health-care provider job experiences, and the educational requirements for specific careers in health care. The intent of the post-secondary skills weekend is to encourage future health-care professionals to consider a career in rural Alberta and learn about the local opportunities available. Students also receive a taste of the local culture with a pancake breakfast, horse wagon rides, and tours and outdoor time at Historic Dunvegan and Maples Provincial Park.
