Experience life in Rural Alberta

RhPAP connects with post-secondary institutions in Alberta to provide future health providers with the opportunity to visit rural Alberta communities and experience what being a rural healthcare provider is all about.

This weekend event offers healthcare students from a University/College/Technical School who have expressed an interest in rural practice, the opportunity to learn and experience work and life in a rural Alberta community for one or two days.

With a focus on community engagement and highlighting local amenities and lifestyle, your community can show the benefits of how their medical career can flourish in a rural setting.

RhPAP will plan the weekend and provide:
  • Transportation to and from the community
  • Accommodations
  • Venue rentals
  • Insurance
  • Meals and snacks
  • Activity costs
  • Appreciation gifts for volunteers
The community will provide:
  • Saturday evening meal and community showcase
  • Community specific SWAG and keepsakes
  • Any other costs outside of an agreed upon budget

 

 

  • Students learn what it is like to be a health-care provider in a rural community and discover practice sites they may wish to consider in the future.
  • Participants experience the lifestyle of a rural community.
  • Communities use this opportunity to showcase what they have to offer to future healthcare providers over the course of a weekend.

What do RhPAP Post-Secondary Experiences look like?

Since 2004, RhPAP-sponsored Let’s Go Rural! Post-Secondary Events have provided Alberta’s post-secondary health career students with the opportunity to experience the rural lifestyle and see how health-care is delivered in a rural setting. Participants meet new people, and explore what living and working in a rural community really means.
