Attracting healthcare providers through high school and post-secondary events
A key way of attracting health-care providers to rural communities is to allow them to experience rural practice and what it would be like to live in a rural community before they start making practice decisions. Opportunities that provide high school and post-secondary students with first-hand exposure to what communities have to offer can be an important first step.
RhPAP collaborates with rural communities and schools to organize various high school and post-secondary events across rural Alberta. Our rural community consultants work with communities to support the retention, attraction, and integration of healthcare providers through partnerships with key stakeholders and A&R committees.
Support the future of rural healthcare through an event that:
- Exposes students to various professions in rural health, helping them to understand the scope of rural practice and hear stories directly from rural care providers.
- Highlights community gems, available amenities, and the rural lifestyle.
- Plants the seed for students to consider returning to the community they grew up in, or any rural community, to pursue a career in health care.
These events are also a great opportunity for community members to work together and show appreciation for the commitment and skills of local health providers.
