Applications for the 2025 RhPAP Rural Medical Student Awards are now open.
The RhPAP Rural Medical Student Award provides a one-time contribution of $5,000 to assist with the student’s tuition, accommodation, living, and/or professional development expenses. The Award is available to a maximum of four students per year, to be applied to the following year of their medical degree. Up to two Awards per Alberta medical school per year will be granted.
Award Eligibility
To be eligible, the applicant must meet the following criteria:
- be an Alberta resident or a permanent resident of Canada living in Alberta
- be enrolled as a first- or second-year full-time medical student at the University of Alberta or the University of Calgary
- complete the application form
Note: Preference will be given to applicants who have lived in a rural Alberta community for a minimum of five (5) consecutive years and have a demonstrated commitment to or interest in rural practice. For the purposes of this award, a rural Alberta community is defined as a community located outside the Census Metropolitan Area boundaries of Calgary or Edmonton with a population of fewer than 15,000 people.
Preference also will be given if you are a member of a student Rural Medical Interest Group at the University of Alberta or the University of Calgary (where degree is being undertaken).
RhPAP will review all applications after the application deadline of February 1, 2025. Successful applicants will be contacted in late February or early March.
