Do you know a health professional in a rural community who teaches and mentors future health-care providers?
A preceptor is an experienced and competent health-care practitioner who serves as a clinical role model and resource for learners.
When students spend time living and training in rural Alberta, they are more likely to consider rural practice.
Preceptors matter because, without them, students would not have these rural training experiences.
November 2 is Rural Preceptor Recognition Day. This day is your opportunity to tell these unsung heroes to “keep up the good work.”
Below are some creative ways to celebrate the preceptors who are making a difference in your community!
- Profile your preceptors in the local newspaper
- Give them a “shout out” on social media (be sure to tag @AlbertaRhPAP and use the the hashtag #preceptorsmatter)
- Write them a thank-you card
- Mention their accomplishments at community events
- Host a BBQ
- In coordination with local elementary or high schools, build opportunities where students’ work can be shared with or presented to your health providers
- Gift an appreciation basket
Let us know how you thank your local preceptors!
