In rural Alberta, nothing spells success like B-B-Q.
On November 12, 2015, Bonnyville physicians and their families joined members of the local community at a barbeque, hosted by the Bonnyville Physician Recruitment and Retention Committee, and Covenant Health, celebrating the community’s success in attracting and retaining physicians.
The barbeque was an opportunity for the committee to welcome new physicians to Bonnyville, and to recognize long-serving physicians for their contributions to the health and well-being of the community.
Guests were treated to steak and all the fixings, prepared by the staff of the Bonnyville Health Centre. Several presentations were also made to physicians and their spouses on behalf of the committee. Dr. Marne Hauptfleisch, and Dr. Hercu van der Watt, received special recognition for their efforts in facilitaitng physician recruitment during recent years.
At the conclusion of the BBQ, the Bonnyville committee was presented with the 2015 RPAP Rural Community Physician Attraction and Retention Award by David Kay, RPAP Executive Director.
Kay thanked the many partners, including Covenant Health, Alberta Health Services, and the business community of Bonnyville and area, who have made Bonnyville’s physician recruitment and retention efforts a success.
“As a physician I have worked with for many years is fond of saying, ‘local solutions for local issues’”, said Kay. “I thank you for stepping up, for your actions in making the Bonnyville committee a success, and you’ve got something to share, and we hope through you we’ll do that with other communities to help them do a better job.”
