The Alberta Weekly Newspapers Association (AWNA) will join RPAP | Health Workforce for Alberta, as a co-sponsor of the 2015 Alberta Rural Community Physician Attraction and Retention Award. The sponsorship covers the 2015 campaign, enabling RPAP to reach the AWNA’s 120 strong weekly newspaper membership across Alberta and the Northwest Territories, through a combination of sponsored advertising and editorial support.
According to RPAP Executive Director, David Kay, the involvement of the AWNA as a Community Award co-sponsor is a reflection of the vital role the weekly newspaper has played in supporting rural Alberta communities.
“Both the weekly newspaper and the country doctor have played vital roles in promoting the well-being of Alberta’s rural communities,” says Kay. “We’re pleased to be working with the AWNA as a Community Award co-sponsor in 2015, underscoring the already successful relationship we’ve enjoyed with Alberta’s weekly newspapers for several years.”
The recipient of the 2015 AWNA / RPAP Alberta Rural Community Physician Attraction and Retention Award will be formally announced on September 8, 2015, with recognition of the 2015 recipient to be included within the program of the 2016 AWNA Convention.
The Alberta Rural Community Physician Attraction and Retention Award, sponsored annually by the Alberta Rural Physician Action Plan (RPAP), was created in 2007 to recognize rural Alberta communities that have best developed innovative and collaborative approaches resulting in successful physician attraction and retention. This community engagement work is an integral part of RPAP’s comprehensive and integrated recruitment, attraction and retention programming.
RPAP | Health Workforce for Alberta is an independent, not-for-profit company funded by the Alberta Ministry of Health. Established in 1991 by the Government of Alberta, RPAP supports the ongoing efforts of Alberta’s rural physicians, their families and communities to improve the quality of rural health care.
The Alberta Weekly Newspapers Association (AWNA) is the co-sponsor of the 2015 Alberta Rural Community Physician Attraction and Retention Award. The AWNA assists and ensures its members publish high quality community newspapers. The Association achieves this by prioritizing education, marketing and fellowship.
