Future healthcare professionals are coming to Vegreville to discover the advantages of living and working in a rural Alberta community.
RPAP | Health Workforce for Alberta, in partnership with the Vegreville Region Physician and Health Professionals Attraction and Retention Committee, Vegreville medical professionals and St. Joseph’s General Hospital, is hosting a Medical Skills Weekend in Vegreville on 21-22 February 2015.
Students from the RPAP-supported Rural Medical Interest Group of the University of Alberta, Nursing and Physiotherapy students from the University of Alberta, and Respiratory Therapy students from NAIT will experience a busy weekend of skills training taught by local healthcare professionals.
In addition to teaching students basic skills, Skills Weekends are valuable opportunities for rural Alberta communities to showcase local amenities to students in healthcare disciplines. Participants will be special guests at a community celebration on the evening of the 21st, featuring traditional Ukrainian cuisine and special performances from the Sopilka Ukrainian Dance Ensemble and the Off Ramp Boys. Breakfast will also be provided the following morning, courtesy of event organizers.
Skills Weekends, sponsored by RPAP | Health Workforce for Alberta, are arranged by the RPAP Medical Students’ Initiative Coordinator and are scheduled throughout the year in rural Alberta communities.
RPAP supports Alberta’s rural practitioners, their families and communities in improving the quality of rural health care by offering comprehensive, integrated initiatives to enhance rural medical services, education, attraction, recruitment, and retention of physicians.
