After practicing medicine and living in Grimshaw for the past 25 years, Dr. Andres Botha hanging up his stethoscope to enjoy a well-deserved retirement. Dr. Botha has always had a passion to motivate people to live a better lifestyle and was involved in community initiatives that might help them do just that. He also has done some motivational speaking encouraging everyone to live their life to their fullest potential.
Dr. Botha was instrumental in the development of the Grimshaw Family Fitness Centre, cycling around Grimshaw to Edmonton in a campaign to raise money for the needed equipment. To this day he is a member and strong supporter of the Les Shaw Fitness Centre located within the Mile Zero Regional Multiplex.
In addition to his passion for fitness he was also always willing to lend a helping hand, and was involved as the onsite doctor for events such as the Alberta Pond Hockey Championship event and hockey provincials.
Dr. Botha will be missed by the community of Grimshaw and surrounding area and will fondly be remembered for his contributions to the community, both personally and professionally.
On June 24th Dr. Botha was presented with a jersey from the local hockey club, and the Town of Grimshaw gave him plaque to commemorate his time in the community, and plan to dedicate one of the rowing machines at the fitness centre in his honour. The Grimshaw Regional Health Care Attraction and Retention Committee presented him with a card thanking him for his dedication and service to the area.
