Local health professionals to instruct students in health skills at April 25 RhPAP-sponsored event.
Vegreville high school students will learn first-hand what it’s like to be a health professional in their community.
St. Joseph’s General Hospital will be hosting students from Vegreville Composite High and St. Mary’s Catholic School for and Health Skills Weekend event on April 25, 2019 from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. This high school skills event is co-sponsored and organized by the Rural Health Professions Action Plan (RhPAP), the Vegreville Region Physician Attraction and Retention Committee, and Covenant Health.
Participants will learn about health care in a rural environment, and will receive instruction in basic skills from local health providers. Health-care professionals from St. Joseph’s General Hospital will introduce participants to the broad range of skills health professionals in rural communities are expected to use every day, including suturing, starting an IV, spinal immobilization, and lab / x-ray/ ultrasound. Participants will also be treated to an RhPAP-sponsored lunch and guest speakers.
RhPAP Skills events, including Skills Days and Skills Weekends for high school and post-secondary students, are sponsored by the Rural Health Professions Action Plan (RhPAP), and are scheduled in rural Alberta communities throughout the year by the RhPAP Rural Community Consultant team
