Students studying several healthcare disciplines are coming to East Central Alberta to discover the advantages of living and working in rural Alberta communities.
The communities of Daysland, Killam, and Sedgewick, are teaming up with RPAP | Health Workforce for Alberta, to host a Medical Skills Weekend at various locations throughout Flagstaff County on 14-15 November 2015.
Students from the RPAP-supported Rural Medical Interest Group of the University of Alberta, the University of Alberta Nursing and Physiotherapy programs, and the NAIT Paramedic program, will experience a busy weekend of skills training taught by local healthcare professionals.
In addition to providing basic medical skills education, Skills Weekends are valuable opportunities for rural Alberta communities to showcase local amenities to students in healthcare disciplines. Students will enjoy a tour of a local Hutterite Colony, and community dinner and entertainment on Saturday evening; as well as tours of facilities in Daysland and Killam throughout the weekend.
Skills Weekends, sponsored by RPAP | Health Workforce for Alberta, are arranged by the RPAP Medical Students’ Initiative Coordinator and are scheduled throughout the year in rural Alberta communities. To learn more about Medical Skills Weekends, see www.rpap.ab.ca/skillsweekends.
