Co-chair Dr. Gavin Parker talks about the 32nd Annual Emergency Medicine for Rural Hospitals conference held in Banff, Alberta.
“The whole tone of what we have addresses the needs of the underserviced [rural] community and the emergency needs,” says Dr. Parker. “But the big thing is bringing the whole rural team here: the doc, the nurse, the RT … it’s really special.”
The vision of the conference is to provide clinical topics relevant to physicians, nurses and other healthcare professionals practising in rural communities.
Through a combination of plenary lectures, small group interactive sessions and hands-on workshops, participants review current issues, guidelines and trends in the management of patients presenting to the emergency department in rural hospitals.
“I don’t think you’ll find [another] conference that address so many of the topical needs in the emergency room as it applies to rural hospitals,” concludes Dr. Parker.
