Learn what rural practice has to offer

Deciding on a medical specialty is important and difficult. Besides examining your life goals and values, you will likely want exposure to a variety of medical fields. For most medical students, exposure is given to only those fields that exist in urban hospitals. Through Rural Medical Interest Groups, take part in RhPAP-sponsored activities to learn what rural medicine has to offer.

Explore the benefits of combining a country lifestyle with a challenging and diverse rural practice. Work alongside rural physicians, hear their perspectives, and experience what rural medicine is really like.

RhPAP supports the following Rural Medical Interest Groups opportuntiies that increase medical student exposure to rural medicine:

RhPAP Shadowing Program

This one-on-one learning experience connects first- and second-year medical students with Alberta rural physicians. Follow a rural physician for all or part of a weekend on call to see the diverse and unique range of skills involved. Learn new skills! Practice simple procedures
