Emergency Measures for Rural Hospitals
The annual Emergency Medicine for Rural Hospitals (EMRH) event in Banff is a tremendous learning opportunity for rural health professionals.
EMRH is organized by the University of Calgary Cumming School of Medicine Continuing Medical Education and Professional Development, and is held each January.
RhPAP provides bursary funding for up to 20 rural health providers, including nurses, paramedics and nurse practitioners to cover their registration costs.
RhPAP also covers some of the registration and accommodation costs of Alberta medical students who attend this event.
Trauma Nursing Care Course
RhPAP provides bursaries for six rural nurses to attend the Trauma Nursing Care Course (TNCC) in Banff in January.
This two day intensive course is designed for nurses practising in emergency, acute care and operating rooms in rural hospitals.
TNCC provides the knowledge, critical thinking skills, and application-based training that is necessary to keep trauma patients safe and improve outcomes.
Each January, the University of Calgary Cumming School of Medicine Office of Continuing Medical Education and Professional Development organizes a TNCC event in Banff. It’s held in conjunction with that university’s Emergency Measures for Rural Hospitals Event. Some TNCC bursary recipients attend both, but it’s not mandatory.
Other pre-EMRH courses may also be eligible for bursaries.

This event is very popular for rural physicians who practise in rural operating teams and want to update their skills. Operating rooms can be stronger if more members of the team attend this event.
RhPAP provides bursary funding for operating room nurses to reduce registration costs.
