Why is it important to involve the entire health care team in training events?
We asked Dr. Gavin Parker as he trained with his team at a CARE Course in Pincher Creek, Alberta.
Dr. Parker explains:
“I think it’s a bit artificial when we as physicians go off and train in courses when we don’t have our staff with us because that’s not the reality of how we practice. I often say I don’t work with doctors, I work with nurses and paramedics and respiratory therapists. Except for when I’m in the operating room doing anesthesia for a surgeon, I’m often not working directly with physicians …those linkages and the strategies in the team interplay is so much more important to work with the multidisciplinary team and even more important is to work with your local team.”
