A southeastern Alberta community known for its diversity, and its collaborative approach to providing residents with health care services, will host the province’s premiere rural health workforce conference. Brooks has been selected to host the 2018 RhPAP Rural Community Conference, which will take place in Alberta’s “Centennial City” on April 10-12, 2018.
According to RhPAP Executive Director, Bernard Anderson, the city’s location, facilities, and long-term success in working with surrounding communities to meet regional health care needs, were the major reasons Brooks was selected.
“We are excited our conference is coming to southern Alberta for the first time, and we invite rural Albertans to join us in Brooks to share their experiences, and to learn about new initiatives related to the attraction and retention of physicians, nurses, and the full scope of allied health care professionals,” says Anderson.
“The City of Brooks has worked diligently with the County of Newell to attract and retain qualified physicians and health care professionals to our region to ensure our residents receive the best care possible,” adds Brooks Mayor, Barry Morishita. “We are ecstatic to showcase our city, region, first-class facilities, and hospitality to the delegates visiting Brooks to attend the RhPAP Conference.”
Representatives of rural Alberta health professions attraction and retention committees, and interested community members, are invited to attend the two-day event. This year’s conference theme is ‘Stepping it up’, and will feature presentations, seminars, a community focused workshop, and gala honouring this year’s RhPAP Award recipients.
