The RhPAP Rural Medical School Award provides a one-time contribution of $5,000 to assist with the student’s tuition, accommodation, living, and/or professional development expenses. The Award is available to a maximum of six students per year, to be applied to the following year of their medical degree. Up to three Awards per Alberta medical school per year will be granted.
Award Eligibility
To be eligible, the applicant must meet the following criteria:
- be an Alberta resident or a permanent resident of Canada living in Alberta
- be enrolled as a first or second year full-time medical student either at the University of Alberta or University of Calgary
- be a member of a student Rural Medical Interest Group at either the University of Alberta or University of Calgary (where degree is being undertaken)
- complete the application form
Note: Preference will be given to applicants who have lived in a rural Alberta community for a minimum of five (5) consecutive years. For the purposes of this award, a rural Alberta community is defined as a community located outside the Census Metropolitan Area boundaries of Calgary or Edmonton with a population of fewer than 15,000 people.
Nomination Deadline is February 1 of each year.
