Apply For Our $5,000 Award To Further Your Healthcare Studies

The Rural Healthcare Student Awards supports your career pursuit in rural healthcare. Each award offers a one-time contribution of $5,000 to help offset costs related to tuition, accommodation, living expenses, and professional development.

Each year, up to: Four (4) medical students, and Six (6) healthcare students are selected to receive an award.

Medical Student Eligibility

To be eligible, applicants must:

  • Be a current Alberta resident
  • Be enrolled full-time in first or second year of medical school at the University of Alberta or University of Calgary
  • Demonstrate an interest in or commitment to rural medical practice

Preference is given to applicants who have lived in a rural Alberta community for at least five consecutive years and are members of a Rural Medicine Interest Group at their respective university

HealthCare Student Eligibility

To be eligible, applicants must:

  • Be an Alberta resident or a permanent resident of Canada living in Alberta
  • Be enrolled full-time in first or second year of a post-secondary program in Alberta
  • Be studying in a regulated, patient-facing health discipline
  • Be enrolled in a program at least two years in length

Preference is given to applicants who have lived in a rural Alberta community for five or more consecutive years and who demonstrate interest in or commitment to rural health care.
