Congratulations to Shawn Knight of Alberta Health, recipient of a NAIT Alumni Award of Excellence for 2017.
RPAP’s Bernard Anderson was very pleased to attend the alumni recognition awards where our colleague from the Ministry of Health, Shawn Knight, Executive Director, Health Human Resource Planning and Strategy, was awarded the 2017 Alumni Award of Excellence.
Congratulations Shawn, we are so happy you received this well-deserved recognition!

The spirit of the north
From Spirit River, a great example of community and area working together to make things happen. RPAP Rural Consultant, Rebekah Seidel, reports that the new health centre in Spirit River is mere months away from opening. From ground-breaking to grand opening, scheduled for August 12, it will take only one year to construct the facility, which has come in on time and under budget. All but $250,000 of the $4.2 million total cost of the facility was raised by the five municipalities that make up the G5 Medical Clinic Committee: Saddle Hills County, Town of Spirit River, Birch Hills County, MD of Spirit River, and Village of Rycroft. The remainder was provided by the provincial government to complete a feasibility study. In addition, an extensive local fundraising campaign has helped to fund the décor inside the building.
When open, the New Central Peace Health Centre will have space for five physicians (currently three in community), two dentists, a social worker, chiropractor, and psychiatrist. It will also have the latest technology, including a teleconferencing centre, and computer equipment.
A beautiful evening
RPAP’s Paul Childs and Colleen Lindholm were in Consort yesterday to learn more about the challenges impacting health care attraction and rentetion in this east central Alberta community. It was a beautiful evening and a productive meeting, and many thanks to the Consort and District Medical Centre Society (pictured above) for welcoming us to the community.
